Use of Propane for Hybrid 12KW generator
I recently purchase the Duramax Beast 12KW Hybrid generator. I am hoping that I can run the generator on Propane, from my 250 gallon tank that supplies propane for the rest of the house. I had a plumber come out today and hook it up using a 10′ flex hose, connected to the 250 gallon tank. He hooked it up to a “low side” connection at 12 lbs, the same propane set up that I use for a few appliances in my house. The generator would not run properly and was starved for fuel.
My questions are:
1. Can this generator be hooked to a “high side” connection with the longer flex hose? If so, can this high side connection be set at 11lbs.
2. Will it damage the generator to run it off of a high pressure hook up from my main tank? If it it possible to do this, please give me the details I need to safely make this connection so as not to damage my generator.
3. If it is not possible to run this generator from the larger tank with a high pressure connection, what is the maximum “tank” that I can use. I have been looking at tanks and see the small tanks that are used with cooking grills, I also see 20lb, 30lb, 50blb, and 100lb. If I am forced to use a tank, I want to use the largest one possible. I love the generator but have been disappointed with the lack of information in the owners manual and online regarding the propane issue.
Please provide me with the information I need to get my generator hooked up to propane. I hope that I am able to hook it up to my large tank that services the house. I look forward to hearing from you very soon as I need to get ready for winter.
